But I Fear Blisters

John G. Young, M.D.

My shoes are worn
polish-bare,
inside torn, rotted
by sweating there.
My soles have holes
that let water in.

I know I need
brand-new pair.

One tongue missing,
the other askew.
My laces knotted,
uneven hang;
holes no longer
permit passage there.

I know I need
a brand new pair.
